After your deposit and reservation form are received, you will receive a confirmation of your reservation and a statement of your remaining balance and due date. Some custom tours and tours with more expensive rail passes require a 2nd deposit at the time those passes are shipped. Full payment is due 90 days before the start of your tour, and can be paid by check or credit card. You will also receive more detailed information on the trip, a list of suggested clothing and equipment, and directions for joining the tour.

3. Travel Insurance

Now that you've signed up for your trip, you will want to consider travel insurance. Although we do not require insurance, to protect your investment in the event you need to cancel your tour, trip cancellation and travel insurance is highly recommended. Every year, 5-10% of our clients end up cancelling for a variety of reasons, and many costs are not recoverable. Please see our cancellation policy. Travel insurance is affordable, and a smart addition to your tour.

Travel Guard's Gold plan has worked well for our tour members for years.
Compare Travel Guard plans and choose among Basic, Silver, Gold or Platinum coverage.

Swiss Care International offers plans for travelers from any country.

Buy trip insurance within 15 days of paying your deposit for extra coverages, including the option to buy "cancel for any reason" coverage.

4. Tour Balance
Paying Tour Balance: Your tour balance is due 90 days before your tour starts. Use the button below to charge to your credit card for tour balances, railpasses, or other miscellaneous payments. Change the quantity to reflect the dollar amount you will be paying.

We offer a 2% discount for balance payments made by check. Mail a check to our Arizona address, or, if you do not have the ability to write checks in US$, consider establishing a free account with www.xetrade.com. We use them all the time for making payments in the euro zone. They're easy to sign up for, give very good exchange rates, and no extra fees for sending checks (drafts) to the US.

5. Getting Ready

Departure night: Most of you will need to spend a night in your departure city before flying home the next day. Ask us about adding a night in Zurich, Geneva or Lucerne to your tour. We have comfortable and convenient 3 and 4-star favorites in each city. We can also help with railpasses and hotels in Italy, France, Austria and Germany if you have additional travel plans before or after your tour.

Travel Agent: For flights and knowledgeable help with pre- and post-tour plans, contact Yves or Monika at www.avenuesoftheworld.com. They are from Switzerland, based in Flagstaff, with years of experience in the travel industry. Tell them you'll be taking an Alpinehikers tour, and they can help fill out the rest of your trip.
